2005 Midsound Regatta Results

This years Regatta presented varied conditions and made for a challenging event.  Saturday mornings early breeze slowly diminished as we began the first race and continued to decrease.  A strong current at the windward mark was almost impossible to fetch by the end of the second race and with the wind just about blown out the current got us to the finish line.  Grace Under Pressure led with Double Vision second and Mental Floss Third at the end of the first day.

Sunday started with 15 knots of breeze and choppy conditions.  Our race committee worked us hard getting in a quick 2 leg race to start things off, then a 4 leg race immediately following and a 5 leg race immediately after that.  With a windward finish we finally had time to catch our breath and get some lunch in before the next race as we sailed back to the starting line.  The wind was beginning to ebb and with a scheduled 4 leg race things began to slow down fast.  The current was still a big factor as boats again struggled to the leeward mark this time.  The RC smartly shortened the race we we finished up wind.  Boats took to both sides of the course looking for wind and found little, the middle of the course panned out for the few who took that option.  All in all it was a great event, very well managed by our race committee who knew to get us out there racing quickly and continually before the wind let up and letting us get in a good 6 races.  The boat Crushed came on strong with three bullets on Sunday but could not hold off Mental Floss who sailed a consistent series and took first place honors.  Crushed took second and Double Vision who also sailed well held on to third place.  (see full results below)

Congratulations to our winners Aidan Glackin (Mental Floss), Scott Harrison (Crushed) and Phil Walters/Glenn Suss (Double Vision) .  Thank you to all those who attended and helped make this event a success!

Thanks - I would like to add my personal thanks to Roy Sherman our PRO who really ran a great regatta - making sure we got racing in before the wind dropped below sailable conditions both days.  Also my personal thanks to Leigh Sterflinger who assisted on Committee boat and to Chris Schneider on chase boat who really stepped up to the plate and made this event possible.

Giving up an entire weekend away from family is one thing when you are racing, but to do it to volunteer and run a race takes a special commitment to the sport.  THANK YOU !!!!!!!

Thanks to Rich Rubel for his assistance and making his boat available if needed.
Thanks also to RC volunteers - JP, Ed Dole, Bob and Cindy.
Thanks to Bill Hellmers for the use of his boat for Chase boat.
Thanks to the LHYC and Commodore Charlie Powers for their commitment to this event and support.
Thanks to CYC for their support, use of facilities and after race refreshments on Saturday.

Finally, I need to thank Glen Suss who really is the man behind the scenes, who gets everything done.  Glen prepared the NOR, Race instructions, etc., got the T-Shirts made and delivered, received registrations, made calls to track down participants, etc. - basically Glenn organized, managed and delivered the J24 Midsound Regatta.  I can't thank Glenn enough for all that he has done.  THANK YOU GLENN !!!!!!
